I decided to try the FP5 earbuds after watching a review of the FP9s, ultimately choosing the FP5 because I didn’t think the additional features of the FP9s were worth the extra cost, especially since I planned to use them mainly at home and occasionally on the go. Pairing them with my iPhone was a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised by their impressive sound quality right out of the box, without needing any EQ adjustments. I then installed the TONE app on iOS and switched the EQ to Immersive (Natural also sounds fantastic), and I was blown away by the audio quality. I quickly paired them with my Android device and Windows PC, making them my daily drivers. In hindsight, I regret not opting for the FP8 or FP9, as they likely would have been even better and were only $50-$70 more.

They connect easily to all my devices, though I did encounter a minor issue with my Android phone that required me to reset the earbuds after they repeatedly disconnected every few minutes. Once I did that, the problem was resolved. Both the iOS and Android apps work well, although I found the firmware update process on iOS to be slow and mostly ineffective. It took about 30 minutes to update, and when I later paired them with my Android phone, the same update took less than 5 minutes. Moving forward, I will use my Android for firmware updates since it proved more efficient. I didn’t notice any changes after the update, so I didn’t feel it was necessary to deduct a star for that.

In terms of comfort, these earbuds are excellent, but the included tips don’t create a very secure fit. I tested them by shaking my head and moving around, and they stayed in place just fine. They feel like they’re floating in my ears, which adds to the comfort for me. Earlier this year, I bought Etymotic Research ER3XR IEMs at a similar price, which were praised for their quality. While they were great and the best I’d owned in a while, the FP5s outperform them in sound quality. The ER3XR are more comfortable for monitoring my microphone on my PC, so I still use them, but the superior sound and wireless convenience of the FP5s have made them my go-to choice. I also received an Audeze Mobius headset, which retailed for $399 or $499. While it sounded good for over-ear headphones, it couldn’t match the FP5’s sound quality, comfort, and usability.

The carrying case is also a pleasant surprise — smaller than I expected, which makes it easy to carry in my pocket instead of a backpack. The only downside is that both the earbuds and the case attract lint, dust, and other particles, so I find myself cleaning them each time I use them, even after I’ve just put them away. It’s not a significant issue, just a slight annoyance.

In summary, I really enjoy the FP5 earbuds, but I find myself secretly wishing I had a reason to upgrade to the FP9 model. After testing at least a dozen Bluetooth headsets, some of which I liked but didn’t last long, LG has gained a lifelong fan with this product!

Terrible sound quality.

I’m really impressed with my LG Tone Free FP5 earbuds! They fit comfortably and I can wear them for extended periods without any discomfort. The battery life is impressive and they charge quickly. I appreciate the whispering mode feature, which allows me to converse quietly in loud environments. The sound quality is exceptional, capturing every detail of the music. The noise cancellation is effective, though there’s some room for improvement. The bass is decent, but it could be more powerful. The only downside is that they lack multi-point connectivity.

I find the LG FP5 to be a great upgrade from my previous Sudio Tolv, which I used for three years without any issues. If you’re on a budget, I recommend this one. It has noise-cancelling features, but keep in mind that using it for extended periods can drain the battery, so remember to turn it off when you don’t need it.
